Ubisoft and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) have teamed up to bring blockchain-based identities to the Captain Laserhawk Universe. This partnership allows players to have personalized identities within the game, creating a unique and immersive experience.
For the first time ever, ENS is collaborating with a gaming company to offer players personalized Niji Warrior ID Cards linked to ENS subnames under “edenonline.eth.” These subnames connect players’ Ethereum addresses to their in-game characters, providing a seamless digital identity in the Captain Laserhawk Universe.
This integration ensures that players have consistent and recognizable identities across the game, enhancing engagement and immersion. Louis Garoche, Ubisoft Blockchain Technical Lead, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating that integrating ENS into their projects has always been a priority.
The use of ENS technology guarantees the secure association of in-game assets with Ethereum addresses, ensuring authenticity and ownership for players. Ubisoft is set to release “Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.,” a Web3 top-down shooter developed in collaboration with the Arbitrum Foundation, on December 18, 2024. The game will run on the Ethereum layer-2 network, Arbitrum, offering players a cutting-edge gaming experience.
Ubisoft’s collaboration with ENS is part of a larger trend in the gaming industry towards blockchain integration. Major players like SEGA and Google Cloud have also invested in Web3 games, signaling a shift towards decentralized gaming experiences. Google Cloud’s partnership with Solana Labs to launch GameShift further accelerates Web3 adoption, providing developers with tools for creating wallets, tokenized assets, and on-chain marketplaces.
Additionally, Mythical Games and FIFA recently announced plans for FIFA Rivals, a mobile NFT-based football game set to launch on iOS and Android in the summer of 2025. This game will allow players to manage teams and compete in real-time matches, bringing blockchain technology to the sports genre.
These collaborations highlight the increasing presence of blockchain in the gaming industry, driven by partnerships between technology leaders and game developers. As the industry continues to evolve, players can look forward to more innovative and immersive gaming experiences that leverage the power of blockchain technology.
