Maelstrom Announces Second Recipient of Bitcoin Grant Program
Maelstrom, a venture firm focused on decentralization and managed by the family office of BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, has revealed in a recent press release that Jon Atack is the second recipient of its Bitcoin Grant Program. Atack, who began contributing to Bitcoin Core in 2019, has been appointed as a maintainer and editor of the Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) repository.
In a statement, Atack emphasized the importance of ongoing development and improvement within the Bitcoin ecosystem. He highlighted the need for further decentralization, ongoing maintenance, bug fixes, and enhancements in various areas such as performance, privacy, scaling, and user experience.
The Bitcoin Grant Program, which was first introduced by Maelstrom in July, aims to support open-source developers working on the Bitcoin network. Unlike many newer cryptocurrency projects, Bitcoin lacks a central entity or foundation directing its development and providing funding.
Earlier this month, Maelstrom awarded its first developer grant as part of the program. The initiative seeks to ensure the continued growth and innovation of the Bitcoin network through the support of talented and dedicated developers like Jon Atack.
