Tomarket, a popular Telegram game playable on the messaging platform as a mini app, is shifting gears in its token launch strategy. Originally slated for release on The Open Network (TON), the game will now debut its TOMA token on the Aptos layer-1 network.
Boasting an impressive user base of 50 million total users and 6 million daily active players, Tomarket is set to unveil its TOMA token on December 20. The token will be distributed through an airdrop to eligible players who have met specific in-game criteria.
While Tomarket has distributed token allocations in various airdrop waves, players have been unable to withdraw or trade the tokens. Initially, developers had indicated that the TOMA token had been generated, but later clarified that it referred to token allocations within the app. The decision to forgo deployment on TON comes as a surprise.
Explaining the move, a core team member of Tomarket, known as Miles, stated, “Aptos’ high speed and reliable infrastructure provides the scalability Tomarket needs to support its expanding user base and deliver seamless blockchain experiences.”
Following the upcoming token launch, Tomarket has ambitious plans to diversify its offerings. This includes the introduction of new games, enhancements to its FarmingPool rewards program, and the launch of a decentralized exchanges (DEX) aggregator.
While many Telegram-based crypto games, such as Hamster Kombat and Notcoin, have chosen to deploy on TON, driving adoption of the network, Tomarket’s decision marks a deviation from the norm. TON currently ranks as the 16th most valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, with a price surge of approximately 190% over the past year.
Tomarket joins the ranks of games opting for alternative paths, with tap-to-earn combat game MemeFi recently launching its token on Sui after pivoting from its original Ethereum layer-2 network Linea.
