A lawsuit has been filed against Stephen Akridge, a co-founder of Ethereum rival Solana, by his ex-wife Elisa Rossi. The lawsuit alleges that Akridge misappropriated the income earned from Rossi’s Solana tokens staking rewards, totaling millions of dollars.
Staking rewards are akin to interest earned from traditional bank deposits. Crypto holders participate in staking by locking their assets for a specified period to validate blockchain transactions and earn additional tokens as a reward.
The legal dispute arose after Akridge and Rossi filed for divorce in February 2023. According to Rossi’s complaint, from early March to mid-May, Akridge controlled and operated the accounts in question, receiving all the SOL token commissions.
Rossi asserts that Akridge, who held positions at Solana and is now the CEO of Cyber Grant, capitalized on his extensive knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain to exploit the situation. The exact value of the disputed tokens remains undisclosed, but Rossi claims it involves a substantial sum.
The lawsuit seeks damages for various claims, including breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraud allegedly committed by Akridge. The legal battle sheds light on the complexities and challenges surrounding crypto assets and their management within relationships and partnerships.
