Solana Labs subsidiary, Solana Mobile, has officially introduced the Seeker, its highly-anticipated second-generation web3 smartphone scheduled for launch in 2025 at Token2049. Transitioning from its stealth phase dubbed “Chapter Two,” the Seeker has already amassed an impressive 140,000 pre-orders from 57 countries, showcasing the global interest in this cutting-edge device.
Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana and CEO of Solana Labs, emphasized the need to enhance accessibility, affordability, and integration of hardware and software for web3 with the Seeker. Building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, the Solana Saga, the Seeker is poised to establish itself as the ultimate web3 mobile device.
One of the standout features of the Seeker is the Seed Vault Wallet, a mobile-centric crypto wallet seamlessly integrated with the device’s self-custodial Seed Vault. Developed in collaboration with Solflare, this wallet offers convenient double-tap transactions and simplified account management for a seamless web3 experience. Furthermore, the Seeker boasts the Solana dApp Store 2.0, which introduces an updated rewards tracker and improved app discoverability across various categories such as payments, DeFi, DePIN, NFTs, AI, and gaming. The Seeker Genesis Token, a unique soulbound NFT, offers exclusive rewards, access, offers, and content within the Solana ecosystem.
In terms of hardware enhancements, the Seeker features a lighter design, a brighter display, enhanced camera capabilities, and extended battery life compared to its predecessor. Early adopters can take advantage of the founder pricing set at $450 for the presale period, available until September 21.
The journey of the Seeker follows in the footsteps of the Solana Saga, which faced initial challenges but ultimately gained traction in the market. Despite a slow start with only 2,500 units sold in the first few months, the Saga experienced a surge in demand after an unexpected airdrop of BONK tokens to phone owners, sparking interest in meme coin trading on Solana. This led to sales exceeding 150,000 units and the device selling out in the US by December 2023.
The success of the Saga has invigorated web3 mobile development within the Solana community, with ecosystem teams actively working on decentralized applications and features tailored for the Seeker ahead of its launch. The impending release of the Seeker is anticipated to drive further adoption of Solana’s mobile technologies and solidify its position in the market.
In a positive market environment, Solana has outperformed other leading projects, with its price reaching $140, marking an 8% increase in the past 24 hours. The future looks promising for Solana and its innovative mobile technology, as it continues to push boundaries and redefine the web3 experience for users worldwide.
