Moonray, an Ethereum-based arena battler game, recently made headlines as it facilitated the largest free gaming NFT mint on OpenSea. Players minted a staggering 220,629 “Jadeon Adam” character skins over a 48-hour period, setting a new record for the platform.
The NFT mint offered players an exclusive earthy green in-game character skin to wear during battles. These free NFTs were minted on Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network Base and were claimed between November 19-21.
Moonray is a combat arena game available on PC through the Epic Games Store. In the past, the game has run play-to-airdrop campaigns, allowing players to earn a share of its upcoming MNRY token based on their in-game progression. Additionally, Moonray has released NFTs that provide players with various perks and bonuses.
Oliver Maroney, Head of Gaming at OpenSea, emphasized the significance of NFT-based game items in driving mainstream adoption of crypto and digital collectibles. These items allow players to truly own their in-game assets, adding a new layer of value to the gaming experience.
Despite its initial launch as the “first Bitcoin metaverse” on the Bitcoin layer-2 network Stacks, Moonray shifted its focus to combat elements and migrated to Ethereum. This transition enabled the game to leverage the capabilities of Ethereum and introduce NFTs on OpenSea, reaching a wider audience through giveaways like the recent Jadeon Adam skin mint.
Looking ahead, Moonray is set to launch on PS5 next year, albeit without crypto features initially due to Sony’s restrictions on crypto integration. Players will only be able to use the Jadeon Adam skin in the PC version of the game.
Hans Andersson, founder and CBO of Moonray, expressed his excitement about the community’s response to the limited edition NFT collection. He credited the support from OpenSea for the successful mint and highlighted the collaborative efforts that led to this milestone.
As Moonray continues to evolve and expand its offerings, the gaming community eagerly anticipates the next chapter in this innovative Ethereum-based arena battler game.
