MetalCore, a mech shooter game developed by Studio 369, is making a significant migration from the Ethereum layer-2 gaming network Immutable zkEVM to Solana. This move is scheduled to coincide with the launch of the game’s second season in November.
The decision to migrate to Solana was influenced by the network’s impressive transaction processing capabilities and its rapidly expanding ecosystem. Matt Candler, the president and CEO of Studio 369, praised Solana’s ability to handle a high volume of transactions while maintaining exceptional uptime. He also highlighted the potential for collaboration with other popular Solana games like Star Atlas and Aurory.
Originally planned for a late 2023 launch on Immutable zkEVM, MetalCore faced delays due to the network’s mainnet launch being pushed back. This led Studio 369 to downsize its team. Despite the setbacks, the studio managed to secure an additional $5 million in funding to support the game’s development. MetalCore entered open beta through the Epic Games Store in September and introduced its MCG token and NFTs on the Immutable zkEVM chain.
The successful launch of MetalCore’s first season, MetalPunks Rhapsody, in September saw the game upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 with various performance and visual enhancements. The studio also simplified the user experience by reducing the level of crypto knowledge required to engage with the game, including eliminating the need to create a wallet.
As Studio 369 prepares for the migration to Solana in November, players will need to transfer their NFTs and tokens from Immutable zkEVM to Solana. The studio plans to provide more details ahead of the move to ensure a smooth transition for players.
Overall, the migration to Solana represents a new chapter for MetalCore, offering exciting opportunities for growth and collaboration within the expanding Solana ecosystem. With a successful first season under its belt, MetalCore is poised for continued success as it evolves on the Solana platform.
