Hamster Kombat, a popular tap-to-earn game on Telegram, is making a strategic shift towards blockchain development on The Open Network (TON) after experiencing a decline in popularity. The decision to launch a layer-2 network on TON was prompted by a community vote in favor of enhancing the utility of the Hamster Kombat token, HMSTR.
Layer-2 networks are built on top of existing blockchains to improve transaction speeds and scalability. While Ethereum has several well-known layer-2 networks, TON is still in the early stages of exploring similar technologies. The TON ecosystem is working on compatibility with Ethereum Virtual Machine protocols to attract liquidity and dApp developers from Ethereum.
The Hamster Blockchain, as it’s being referred to, originated from a vote within the Hamster DAO community. The proposal aimed to build a network where the HMSTR token could be used for gas fees. The vote successfully met the required quorum, with over 1.18 billion HMSTR tokens in favor.
Initially, Hamster Kombat gained rapid popularity, amassing millions of users within a short period. However, after the token airdrop, the user base significantly declined by 86%, from 300 million to 41 million active monthly players. Factors contributing to this decline include the token’s performance, increased competition from new tap-to-earn games, and community dissatisfaction with development progress.
In an effort to address these challenges, the Hamster Kombat team is focusing on the development of a layer-2 network on TON. However, critical details such as the development team, technological stack, and funding for the project remain unclear. The initiative is not included in Hamster Kombat’s roadmap, which has not been updated since September.
The community awaits further updates on the development of the layer-2 network and its potential impact on the future of Hamster Kombat. Stay tuned for more information on this evolving blockchain project.
