President-elect Donald Trump Considering Perianne Boring for CFTC Chair
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating appointing Perianne Boring, the chief executive of the Chamber of Digital Commerce, as the Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that Trump is considering Boring for the role due to her expertise in financial matters and her ability to effectively communicate with the public.
Alongside Boring, other top contenders for the position include Summer Mersinger and Caroline Pham, who currently serve as Commissioners for the CFTC, as well as Jill Sommers, a former Commissioner of the agency who now heads the derivatives practice group at Patomak Global Partners. Neal Kumar, a former special counsel to the CFTC, is also being considered for the position.
Earlier this year, the Chamber of Commerce, under Boring’s leadership, voiced concerns about proposed legislation by Democratic lawmakers Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown that aimed to regulate the crypto industry. Boring penned a letter to Brown opposing the bill, arguing that it would hamper the industry’s growth.
Notably, Boring made headlines last year when she predicted that Bitcoin would reach a price of $1 million by 2029 if adoption rates continued to grow. She attributed this potential surge in price to increasing demand and limited supply of the cryptocurrency.
As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $94,944, with a slight decrease in value over the past 24 hours.
