DIA has recently unveiled the testnet for Lumina, its innovative modular oracle infrastructure designed to enhance transparency, scalability, and integration flexibility within the blockchain ecosystem. Lumina sets itself apart from existing oracle solutions like Chainlink and API3 by offering support for multiple messaging protocols, compatibility with non-EVM chains, and comprehensive data traceability.
One of the key features of Lumina is its commitment to providing full visibility into the data aggregation, verification, and delivery process. Zygis Marazas, DIA’s head of product, emphasized the importance of building trust in data reliability and accuracy by allowing users to track the entire data journey from the source to the final price calculation.

The testnet for Lumina has gone live, with limited participation available. The mainnet is expected to launch in Q1 2025 as a fully permissionless network. This means that new chains and assets requiring oracle services can seamlessly integrate with Lumina without manual onboarding processes, offering developers greater speed and autonomy.
According to Marazas, Lumina’s permissionless setup will enable developers to create their own oracles on layer-2 networks for a wide range of token assets, making DeFi more accessible to a broader range of assets beyond traditional blue-chip tokens.
Lumina’s architecture is designed to aggregate data from various sources, including blockchain networks and external APIs, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accuracy. By utilizing an OP Stack-based rollup called Lasernet for scalability and Celestia for data availability, Lumina optimizes data delivery while minimizing risks.

Although Lumina is optimized for Ethereum rollups, it also supports non-EVM ecosystems like Cosmos and Move-based chains. Its flexibility extends to data delivery models, offering both push and pull options to cater to different user preferences.
Decentralization is a core focus of Lumina’s roadmap, with plans to transition to a fully decentralized protocol by 2025. This will involve opening participation to anyone, implementing staking and slashing mechanisms to ensure data accuracy, and reducing reliance on whitelisted data feeders.
Overall, Lumina’s flexibility, scalability, and commitment to decentralization make it a promising addition to the blockchain oracle landscape. With its innovative features and user-friendly approach, Lumina has the potential to revolutionize data delivery and integration in the blockchain space.
