D3 Global, a leading web3 domain name company, has recently announced the launch of top-level domain names specifically for the ApeCoin community.
The news was released on October 22, revealing that the ApeCoin (APE) ecosystem now has access to .APE top-level domain names on the newly introduced layer-2 solution, ApeChain.
This initiative, known as Ape Names, marks the beginning of an effort to provide an interoperable name service for ApeCoin users.
Community approved .APE domain names proposal
The introduction of .APE domain names by D3 was a result of a proposal put forth by the ApeCoin community earlier this year. The decision aligns with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) upcoming plans to launch new generic TLDs in the coming years.
According to the announcement by D3, the availability of .APE top-level domains enables users to acquire and utilize tokenized Ape Names as a web3 identifier. This functionality has been made accessible ahead of the next ICANN application round.
Token holders of ApeCoin can now utilize these tokenized names for a variety of purposes, such as email addresses, wallet addresses, decentralized infrastructure identifiers, and web3 usernames.
“There is an imminent need for a comprehensive, all-in-one name solution that not only facilitates the growth of the APE brand and community, but also ensures futureproof utility for users. The APE Foundation is excited to partner closely with D3 to build the future of the internet together for Apes by Apes,”
– Gerard Hernandez, APE Foundation special council
D3 will initially offer .APE domain names to token holders, with plans to make them available to the general public in the near future.
Currently, D3 serves as a domain partner for various blockchain user communities, including Shiba Inu, Magic Eden, NEAR Protocol, Own The Doge, and Core DAO.
Aside from D3’s notable presence in the industry, other companies such as GoDaddy, Ethereum Name Service, and Unstoppable Domains are also working towards providing domain name services to crypto users. In a notable collaboration, GoDaddy and ENS joined forces earlier this year to introduce .eth domain names to the community.
