Classic Ethereum NFT Project CryptoKitties Makes a Comeback as a Telegram Game
The iconic CryptoKitties NFT project is back in action, this time in the form of a Telegram game. This marks the first official product launch under the CryptoKitties IP since the original NFT collection debuted in 2017, offering a glimpse into the collection’s upcoming relaunch on the Flow blockchain.
In recent years, Dapper Labs, the brains behind CryptoKitties, has ventured into creating licensed crypto products such as NBA Top Shot, NFL All Day, and Disney Pinnacle. However, the surge in popularity of Telegram gaming prompted the company to revisit the CryptoKitties IP.
The explosion of Telegram gaming in 2024 saw titles like Hamster Kombat attracting over 300 million players, Notcoin launching a significant gaming token, and various projects like Flappy Bird joining the trend.
Now, CryptoKitties joins the Telegram gaming craze with the launch of All The Zen, a mini app where players hatch eggs to birth Kitties that generate “Zen,” which can be used for in-game upgrades.
Unlike most Telegram games utilizing The Open Network (TON), Dapper Labs opts to leverage its own blockchain, Flow. This decision stems from the congestion Ethereum faced in 2017 due to the overwhelming demand for CryptoKitties.
Player progression in the Telegram app will unlock CryptoKitties-related airdrops on the Flow network, following a “play-to-eggdrop” model that mirrors the mechanics driving the Telegram gaming boom.
The game serves as a teaser for CryptoKitties’ upcoming full-scale relaunch on Flow, promising a deep dive into a captivating narrative where players strive to hatch the “ReGenesis Kitty” from an egg to bring joy to the world.
Additionally, a new Ethereum NFT collection named “Egg” has been released as a precursor to the game, with Dapper Labs hinting at substantial benefits for players in the Telegram experience.
Originally minted using Ethereum’s ERC-721 token standard, CryptoKitties held a significant presence on the Ethereum network, accounting for 13% of all transactions as players indulged in breeding Kitties to expand their collection.
With the revival of CryptoKitties in the form of a Telegram game, enthusiasts can look forward to immersing themselves in the beloved world of digital feline collectibles once again.
