As regulatory efforts surrounding cryptocurrencies continue to evolve, CMB President İbrahim Ömer Gönül has made new statements on the matter.
According to reports from CNN, SPK President Ömer Gönül addressed the 8th Capital Markets Congress, revealing that ongoing work is being conducted on secondary regulations pertaining to cryptocurrencies.
İbrahim Ömer Gönül stated, “We are in the process of finalizing secondary regulations concerning cryptocurrencies in the near future.”
Upon the release of the secondary regulations, thorough on-site inspections will be carried out at crypto asset service providers, and the authorization process will be swiftly completed.
Key Developments
It is worth noting that the “Law on Amendments to the Capital Markets Law” numbered 518, commonly referred to as the cryptocurrency law, officially came into effect in Turkey at the start of July, as published in the Official Gazette on 02.07.2024.
Under this law, cryptocurrency service providers currently operating or planning to operate in Turkey fall under the regulatory oversight of the Capital Markets Board (CMB).
