This directive was given during a collaborative work session organized by the Party Faction Theory Study Center and the Prosecutor’s Committee of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, with a focus on the recently revised Anti-Money Laundering Law.
Party Group Secretary and Chief Procurator of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Ying Yong, emphasized the necessity of adopting a robust strategy to address money laundering facilitated by emerging technologies, products, and businesses, including cryptocurrencies. He stressed the importance of implementing the updated provisions of the Anti-Money Laundering Law, which broaden the range of offenses that can result in money laundering.
Ying underscored the significance of aligning legal oversight with the principles laid out in the revised law to promote high-quality financial development. As digital assets play an increasingly significant role in financial crimes, he called for enhanced capabilities to detect and prosecute money laundering offenses involving cryptocurrencies. Ying highlighted the escalating sophistication of money laundering networks that exploit blockchain and other innovative technologies, emphasizing the need for advanced tools and expertise to combat these evolving threats.
It is crucial for authorities to stay vigilant and proactive in addressing the challenges posed by the use of cryptocurrencies in illicit financial activities.
